M S Dhoni proves his worth - wins IPL9 encounter against last year's champions MI

M S Dhoni knows just how to deliver and, even with a new franchisee in Rising Pune SuperGiants, he showed that he is always the Boss. It was a fantastic debut for his team as it scripted a 9 wicket win over Mumbai Indians, the IPL8 champions, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to set in motion the prestigious IPL9 season.

Winning the toss, MI opted to bat first and Dhoni, the captain of the new entrant Rising Pune Supergiants, lost no time in putting his plans into action that left the MI bewildered. They kept losing wickets too fast for comfort and only three batsmen reached double figures - Harbhajan Singh (45 not out), Ambati Rayudu (22) and Vinay Kumar (12). Finally, MI wa all out for 121/8.
And, that score was overhauled in 14.4 overs by RPS - Ajinkya Rahane scored 66 not out and was declared Man of the Match.
With this win, RPS have announced their arrival but, one must remember that MI is a determined team with many big names and, in IPL8, it had lost five matched on the trot before recovering to win the trophy. This is just the start of, what promises to be, an exciting contest as always. It will keep people glued to their TV sets.

IPL8 – Mumbai Indians lose yet again, this time to Rajasthan Royals at Ahmedabad

#IPL8 #RRvMI #Ahmedabad #KeironPollard #RohitSharma Nothing seems to be going right with the Mumbai Indians since they lost their third consecutive game at the Sardar Patel stadium in Ahmedabad while Rajasthan Royals won their third one.
The Mumbai Indians had posted a score of 164 thanks to some hard hitting by Kieron Pollard but the Rajasthan Royals chased it down in the 20th over with 5 balls to spare as reported in zeenews.india.com dated 15 April 2015.

Obviously, the decision to bat first did not pay dividends for MI as they struggled to score only 45 runs in the first 10 overs – captain Rohit Sharma went out for a zero. Subsequently, a century-plus stand between Kieron Pollard (70 off 34 balls) and Corey Anderson (50 off 38 balls) helped the team to put up a respectable 164 for five.
The score appeared to be chicken feed for the RR and Captain Steve Smith scored an unbeaten 79 from 53 balls and he had for company Ajinkya Rahane (46) as they raised a 64-run stand for the second wicket.
It is obvious that in spite of having big names of cricket associated with the team in the form of mentor and coaches, Mumbai Indians are struggling to come to terms with the reality of T20 cricket and finding the winning combination.

Losing the toss and sent in to bat by Gautam Gambhir, the captain of Mumbai Indians scored 98 not out at the Eden Gardens that was crowded to capacity with the score at 168 for 3. They were 37 for 3 at one stage and the final score appeared to be a fairly good one. However, the home team had enough batting power to overhaul the score with some balls to spare.
For the KKR, Captain Gautam Gambhir scored a half-century. They lost Robin Uthappa (9) early in the third over but, then, Gambhir and Manish Pandey added 85 runs for the second wicket. After that, Suryakumar Yadav hit a whirlwind knock of 46 off just 20 deliveries with the help of one four and five sixes. That helped KKR to chase down the target in 18.3 overs. KKR finished at 170/3 and won by 7 wickets.
There were dropped catches and missed chances on both sides and that has become a part of the high tension matches and one can only blame Lady Luck. In the end, it is the result that counts.
