Aircraft like Boeing and Airbus are designed to carry passengers who love to use the aerial route to travel from one place to another. These patrons value their time and want to reach their destination at the earliest. To them, time is money and they bring in revenue for the airlines. However, a time comes when these aircraft are used for purposes other than flying. One such example has become news. It seems inhabitants in Bali are witness to such a situation. At that time, the aviation industry was in a crisis and had to dream up strategies to remain visible. The airline was the flag carrier of Singapore and it offered passengers the chance to dine on board two A380 superjumbos -- the world's biggest passenger jet.

Typhoon Nock-Ten closes in on the Bicol peninsula and nearby islands and thousands of residents were fleeing coastal and other hazardous areas in the eastern Philippines. The powerful typhoon is barrelled towards the disaster-prone archipelago and officials have warned of 2.5-metre high waves and landslides.
People were evacuated from a farming village of 3,300 people near the active Mayon volcano. There are large ash deposits on the slopes and, heavy rain could dislodge them and bury the homes in mud.

Philippine and international weather services have indicated that Nock- Ten, named after a bird found in Laos, was set to hit Bicol on Sunday before reaching the rest of the main island of Luzon tomorrow. The US Joint Typhoon Warning Center has also made forecast of sustained windspeeds of 231-Kmph and gusts of 278-Kmph when Nock-Ten makes landfall.
The typhoon will affect an area populated by nearly 42 million people and will include the capital Manila. The government has carried out preemptive evacuations in the region with nearly 4,000 residents moving into emergency centres and more than 8,000 others seeking shelter elsewhere.
Nock-Ten is arriving outside the normal typhoon season and will disrupt the celebration of one of the most important holidays in the mainly Catholic country's religious calendar - all ferry services and some commercial flights suspended. The coastguard has ordered beaches south of Manila to be cleared of holidaymakers and all forms of recreational activity (on the coasts) remain banned.

The Sasihithulu Beach in Dakshina Kannada district could become a favored destination for surfers as the administration declared that the beach would be exclusively dedicated to the sport. In May, the second edition of the Indian open Surfing was hosted at the beach - thereby, it found a place on the country's surfing map.
At an event organized by the coastal Karnataka tourism and the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), it was indicated that Sasihithulu Beach has emerged as a potential surfing destination and the authorities would go all out to promote it.

The authorities are determined to make the beaches in the district lively and vibrant to justify the amount of money that the government is investing in them. Surfers are often forced to seek places on beaches, far from teeming crowds, in order to avoid injuries both to themselves and other revelers. Moreover, the ebb and flow of the tidal swell at Sasihithulu Beach is ideal for surfing.
However, there are arguments that the beach was too far from the city and the alternate of Panambur Beach be promoted as a destination for surfers.

Odisha to get a boost in tourism with funds from the center

Tourism in the coastal circuit of Odisha to get a boost since the state is all set to get Rs 76.5 crore under Centre's Swadesh Darshan scheme. Out of this amount, about Rs 15.3 crore has already been released in the first installment.

These funds have been sanctioned for infrastructure growth and development of beaches in Gopalpur, Tampara, Barakul and Satapada. The objective is to develop coastal sites so that they can attract more tourists to the state. Once amenities are improved at various tourist spots on the coastline, the benefit will go to other nearby areas as well.
The improvements will cover roads and, water sports, jetty, water park, solar street lighting, floating restaurants will be developed in these area apart from tourist reception centers. In addition, a sand art and maritime museum will come up at Gopalpur as also a solid waste management and sewerage treatment plant. Gopalpur is one of the favorite spots for tourists.

Tragedy strikes Mandarmani beach - three IT professionals swept away

Tragedy struck holidaymakers on Mandarmani beach as three IT professionals employed in an IT major in Calcutta were swept away by the sea just when low tide had set in. The incident happened in a risk-prone time for venturing into the water.
A fourth person was rescued by some residents who jumped into the sea.

All the three were residents of Kolkata and were part of a group of 10 to 12 who had reached the popular beachfront in the afternoon. They were apparently pulled away by the water that receded minutes after low tide set in at around 2.30pm.
A police officer explained that when the water recedes in the initial minutes after the low tide sets in, the force remains high and the receding waters sucked the three men into the sea. Swimmers usually experience stronger tugs away from the beach during low tide when the water drains away from the coastline than during high tide when the water moves over land.

Vehicles continue to ply on Mandarmani beach near Digha despite ban

The East Midnapore administration had banned vehicles from plying on the Mandarmani beach near Digha. The ban had been imposed in August last year by the then district magistrate because a tourist had lost his life in an accident during parasailing - this sport involves the use of jeeps.
But, from March this year, vehicles have started to ply and are taking tourists on a ride along the beach or ferrying them to the resorts that line the seaside. Every year, nearly 5 lakh tourists visit Mandarmani.

This is attributed to slackness in policing. It seems earlier vehicles had no option but to ply on the beach because there was no road to the hotels and resorts. However, a road has now been constructed a road and motorists should make use of it. The problem is that many of the resorts had their entrances facing the beach, hence tourists had no alternative but to go along the beach.
It may be recalled that on August 4 last year, the ban was imposed on vehicles on the beach since they posed a threat to tourists and the red crabs.
