#BJP #MeatBan #Paryushan #DevendraFadnavis BJP is realizing that bulldozing does not always pay dividends as the Shiv Sena, MNS, Congress and NCP slam the decision of the BMC to a four-day shutdown of the Deonar abattoir during Paryushan – this is a week long period of penance for the Jain community. BJP finds itself isolated on the issue.

Political observers feels this is a method of appeasing the Jain community for political reasons and, MNS chief Raj Thackeray has urged the party not to "play politics" on the veg-non veg issue. In his opinion, no community should be appeased on the question of dietary preferences.
The BJP had made fresh attempts to extend the abattoir ban to four extra days to cover the entire stretch of Paryushan but it was opposed by the other parties.
Mumbai Regional Congress Committee chief Sanjay Nirupam has termed this action of determining the dietary preferences of citizens as impolite and that the BJP has encroached on the citizens' personal space.
However, the decision to shut the Deonar abattoir for four days (September 10, 13, 17 and 180 had been taken by the civic administration and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had nothing to do with the decision. This clarification has been given by the local BJP leaders.

They have misused their position and taken advantage of their political clout – Fadnavis delayed an international flight going out of India and Rijiju prevailed upon the carriers to offload three passengers to make room for him.

Unfortunately, with the incidents of irregular dealings leveled against his senior ministers like Sushma Swaraj, Smriti Irani, and chief minister Vasundhara Raje, the embarrassments he is facing can only be imagined. His problems are confounded by the irregularities leveled against BJP ministers in Maharashtra which is a BJP ruled state.
That is probably the reason of why, like his previous counterpart who had been criticized for his silence on many embarrassing issues, our present Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chosen to be silent.

Mumbai has no respite from monsoons and it keeps happening year in and year out. No matter which political fixation is in the saddle, none of them are able to tackle this menace of waterlogged roads and train tracks.
There are plans to run bullet trains between Mumbai and Ahmedabad but, if Mumbai cannot prevent waterlogging of railway tracks, how will they handle bullet trains.
Mumbai came to a standstill this year also due to heavy rain that battered most parts of the city and threw normal life totally out of gear, simultaneously exposing the lack of preparedness of the financial capital of India. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken stock of the situation and has appealed to Mumbaikars not to come out of their homes unless absolute necessary.

The heavy downpour and waterlogging have affected the train services which are considered to be the lifeline of the city. Many long-distance trains like the Deccan Queen, Panchavati Express and Pragati express from Mumbai have been cancelled. Moreover, a whole lot of trains were stuck in between CST and Kalyan.
Apart from railways, vehicular traffic has also been affected and has led to chaos across the city. Most of the flights have also been delayed.

Death toll rises to 25 in Mumbai spurious liquor case

Once again spurious liquor has left at least 25 persons dead and another10 are battling for their lives in Mumbai. The terrible incident happened in a den in the Laxminagar slum area in Malwani. Police have arrested 3 accused in the case.

The dead included autorickshaw drivers, rag pickers and scrap collectors between the ages of 30 and 40. It seems most of them had consumed liquor the previous night, while some had it in the morning. The effects began to show within a few hours of consumption and began with vomiting.
The Malwani police are collecting information and necessary evidence in the case.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an inquiry into the case and has directed that a report be submitted within two days.

Devendra Fadnavis takes over as Chief Minister Maharashtra

44-year-old Devendra Fadnavis has been sworn as the 27th chief minister of Maharashtra as the BJP formed its government for the first time on its own without reliance on any other party timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
The program was held at the Wankhede Stadium and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present on the occasion. Also in attendance were several of the PMs Cabinet colleagues, apart from chief ministers of BJP-ruled states and those governed by its allies.
There is a lot of curiosity about Devendra Fadnavis - he is the second youngest chief minister of Maharashtra after Sharad Pawar who became Chief Minister when he was 38. When he was just 21, Fadnavis had become the youngest corporator of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Subsequently, he became Nagpur's youngest mayor at 27. That way, he was second youngest mayor elected in India.
Fadnavis holds a law degree from Law College, Nagpur, and also a post graduate diploma in Business Management and a diploma in Project Management from the DSE Foundation in Germany.
Unhappy with the treatment meted out to it by the BJP, former ally Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had decided to boycott but, he changed his mind after a last minute call by party President Amit Shah – this has set off speculations that a possible rapprochement between the two estranged Hindutva parties could be on the cards.
With BJP now both at the center as well as the state, expectations are high that development projects would get a boost because there would be no need to face the arm twisting tactics of allies. This had hampered innumerable development work in Maharashtra.
