This has been reported in zeenews.india.com dated 17 September 2015.
The mayor of Illapel, located near the epicenter, has revealed that a 26-year-old woman had been killed by a collapsing wall, and 15 others were reported injured.
The quake had struck just 46-Km from Illapel and, as a result, the city located 210-Km north of Santiago was without electricity or drinking water. People fled their damaged homes in panic and sought shelter in the streets. It seems the quake was felt as far away as the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, on the eastern seaboard of South America.
U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed that the quake had struck 169-Km north of Valparaiso at a depth of 25-Km and was originally reported as magnitude 7.9.
The waves triggered by the earthquake have led to flooding of streets near the ocean. Tsunami waves of up to 3 meters (10 feet) are possible for French Polynesia. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has indicated that waves of less than 1 meter were also expected in Hawaii.
