Welcome to the world of aerial pizza delivery - Domino's sets the trend in New Zealand

At long last, the concept of aerial pizza delivery is taking shape - it has become a reality with the first pizza being delivered by drone. It is a Domino's Pizza and the first delivery of a Peri-Peri chicken pizza and a chicken and cranberry pizza was made to Whangaparaoa, north of Auckland.
The drone company Flirtey has teamed up with Domino's to deliver pizza through the unmanned aerial vehicle.

The delivery of pizza by using a drone was a world-first and Domino's expected high demand from customers when it started trials. The obvious benefits of such a delivery system meant avoiding traffic and congestion, and limiting delivery time.
The successful delivery followed several operational and product trials, including food temperature testing and co-ordinating with government.
Research carried out by Domino's showed that 70 per cent of customers would use drone delivery if given the opportunity. New Zealand is, right now, its trial market but it is also looking at trials in Australia, Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Japan and Germany.

New Zealand to go in for aerial delivery of Domino's pizzas - via drones

Fast food companies have been toying around with idea of aerial delivery of pizzas and, such pizza delivery may sound futuristic but Domino's has been obtained the OK to test New Zealand pizza delivery via drones. The fast food chain has gone into partnership with drone business Flirtey to launch the first commercial drone delivery service in the world which could begin later this year.

Domino's have said that it had been investigating innovative and new delivery methods in view of growth in its business and one of the options was the robotic delivery, which the government is still considering. While details have been kept a secret for obvious reasons, it is understood that Domino's would use drone delivery alongside its usual delivery methods - and, only where it would be faster than the use of a car or scooter.
The company has made it clear that it will not offer the full range of its products for drone delivery - and such delivery would be restricted to only those customers who live within a certain distance from a store and will get the benefit of aerial delivery.

Kolkata Metro stations to have kiosks for fast foods like momos and pizzas

Kolkata Metro stations will soon acquire a new look with the introduction of food stores that will be serving momos and pizzas. Names that have cropped are Wow Momo and Domino's Pizza - they will be among the 19 food stores at 16 stations. A soft drink company is also expected to open an outlet.

Wow Momos have already opened its first kiosk at Kavi Nazrul station about a week ago and another 13 more are on the anvil across nine stations that include Tollygunge, Rabindra Sarovar, Kalighat, Esplanade and Shyambazar. The chain will offer a limited menu across their steamed, fried and pan-fried platters.
Domino's Pizza plans to open three kiosks in the Metro stations, each spread across 50-110sq ft. Two of these will come up in three months time. It will have a set menu offering two vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties. The pizzas will be brought in from the nearest outlet of the company.
Metro stations do not have any food kiosks, and it would be convenient for the commuters to have food on the go but, passengers will not be allowed to take food to the platforms - that is to to prevent littering.

IRCTC is expecting rapid growth of e-business and has set its sights high - it aims to reach the target of one lakh online meal orders per day when, at present, it sees only about 3000 meals being booked online every day with 193 stations and 1516 trains covered under the e-catering policy. It has in its kitty about 81 vendors that include Haldiram's, Domino's Pizza, Bikanerwala, Wimpy, Kellog's and Chaayos. IRCTC also has seven food aggregators like Food Panda and Travel Khana who are a part of the e-catering business.

In the opinion of IRCTC, the online food order on trains and at stations is catching up and, hence, the ambitious plan of one lakh order on a daily basis. It had been launched in September 2014 in a few selected trains as a pilot project and later, the e-catering concept was extended to more trains the next year. In October 2015, station-based e-catering was started at 45 stations.
The e-catering will be extended to 409 major stations and almost all mail/express trains in a phased manner and the passenger can book his meal through IRCTC website, mobile App, call centre and SMS and exercise the option of making the payment in advance or pay cash on delivery.
