IPL9 - Kolkata blow Delhi away in match at Eden Gardens

The IPL9 match between KKR and DD was virtually a one-sided match and one that left much to be desired - the crowd wanted more fun and more action and more runs but the Delhi Daredevils proved to be a totally weak team and a misfit to take on the mighty KKR at their home ground. The result - a nine-wicket drubbing for the Delhi Daredevils. to begin their Indian Premier League campaign in style here on Sunday.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to field - but, Delhi Daredevils, mentored by Rahul David and captained by Zaheer Khan failed to impress. They could score only 98 runs and KKR overhauled that in 14.1 overs. Andre Russell (3 for 24) and 45-year-old Brad Hogg (3 for 19) did the damage and were the star bowlers of KKR.
For KKR, openers skipper Gautam Gambhir (38 not out) and Robin Uthappa (35) shared a brisk 69-run stand to score their first win in IPL9.

People of Kolkata wait in scorching heat for hours to get tickets for IPL9

The IPL9 season will take off for the people of Kolkata when the Kolkata Knight Riders take on Delhi Daredevils in their first encounter on Sunday the 10th April. Therefore, hundreds of KKR fans queued up outside the Mohammedan Sporting Club counters to pick up their tickets.

The tickets were being sold from 10am to 5 pm and, even at closing time, there were at least 60 people still in the queue. Some of them had been waiting for the better part of the afternoon, when the temperature outdoors had felt like 50 degrees Celsius.
The people in queue had fans who wanted to either buy their tickets or pick up those that they had purchased online. Some of them had taken leave from work while many others had slipped out of their workplaces on some pretext or reported sick. One fan had purchased his passage to Eden from an online portal and was in the queue from 4pm but unfortunately, the counters closed before he could collect his tickets and he would have to return next morning.

IPL8 – Bangalore dislodges Kolkata from No 2 position in rain affected match

#IPL8 #SRHvsRCB #ChrisGayle #ViratKohli #DavidWarner It was a terribly rain affected match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sun Risers Hyderabad. The match was initially reduced to an 11-over match but, by the time RCB came to bat, the revised target was 81 in 6 overs. And, thanks to brilliant batting by Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle, they reached the target with one ball to spare.

RCB defeated SRH by 6 wickets and, by virtue of this win, RCB moves up to 2nd spot in the points table dislodging KKR, the defending champions to No 3 position based on the net run rate.
Batting first, SRH posted a total of 135 for 3 in 11 overs – David Warner remained not out with 52 and with Moises Henriques (57), they put up a fairly good score because RCB would have to score at over 12 runs per over.
But, Duckworth-Lewis decided that RCB should score 81 runs in 6 overs – which works out to a rate of little over 13 per over.
And, when batsmen like Kohli and Gayle ae at the crease, anything can happen. Kohli remained not out with 44 in 19 balls while Gayle made 35 in 10 balls – both of them hit three sixes!! (Image courtesy wikimediacommons.org)

#IPL8 #KKRvsRCB #EdenGardens #KKR #RCB #GautamGambhir It was a sad Saturday evening for Gautam Gambhir and KKR at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, because, having put up an imposing total of 177 runs on the scoreboard for RCB to chase down, he must have been sitting pretty counting on his team of five spinners to spin their magical webs to ensure that RCB does not reach the target.
But, Gautam Gambhir had not reckoned with the devastating force of Chris Gayle, the opener of RCB, who overturned the KKR applecart with one over to spare. He fell 4 runs short of a three figure mark and, in scoring his 96 runs, he struck seven boundaries and an equal number of sixes.
Incidentally, Chris Gayle was dropped by Morne Morkel while on 63 and the total on 131 for five and that was a costly miss. In T-20, catches and half chances must be gobbled up else, there is only disappointment and repenting. There is no use crying over spilt milk.

Gautam Gambhir scored 58 runs off 46 balls (7x4, 1x6) and Robin Uthappa (35 from 28 balls; 4x4) – that gave them a good start with an 81-run opening partnership. However, their players failed to capitalize on that sort of a start mostly because of poor batting between 11-15 overs. In the final analysis, it appeared that they fell short of at least 15 runs. On hindsight, a score nearer to 200 would have been more competitive.

It is all about money and fame the Indian team members have now got themselves reattached with their IPL teams.
The inauguration would be held in Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on 7 April with a 2-hour glittering program where Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor are expected to play important roles.
