British Airlines have suspended all flights to Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt indefinitely

British Airways and a number of other airlines like EasyJet and Monarch have suspended all flights to Sharm el-Sheikh, the favorite tourist spot in Egypt, "indefinitely" because of continued security concerns following the bombing of a Russian jet in the sky over Egypt.
This has been reported in nzherald.co.nz darted 22 June 2016.
It may be noted that no flights have operated between the UK and the Red Sea resort since November last year after the terrorist bombing of a passenger plane in which all 224 on board were killed. BA had initially cancelled flights up until specific dates pending a change in Government advice. But, it has now indicated that since the safety and security of the customers will always be the topmost priority they have suspended all flights from Gatwick to Sharm el-Sheikh indefinitely. Those who hold bookings on any cancelled services for the coming winter season can claim a full refund or can opt for a new booking to an alternative destination.
Similarly, EasyJet, the low-cost carrier, "remains committed to resuming services to Sharm", but that can happen only when the Government changes its advice. Monarch has, incidentally, cancelled all flights to Sharm up to and including October 30. It has added that it expects to resume services from the beginning of the winter season. And, Thomson Airways has suspended its flights to Sharm until at least September 28.

Storm Katie heaps miseries on Easter holiday crowd in Britain as flights were cancelled and pilots battled to land planes while police warned motorists to remain indoors as the storm brought chaos to transport networks. This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 28 March 2016.
Those who were motoring home from the Easter weekend were advised to delay their journeys until later following issue of weather warnings for London and the South East. As per reports, 900 engineers had been at work to restore power to more than 80,000 homes across the south of England after the strong winds caused outages across Surrey, Kent, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Dorset, West Sussex, Wiltshire and the Isle of Wight.
As to Heathrow Airport, as many as 61 flights were cancelled and 20 were diverted, while the corresponding figures for Gatwick Airport were 26 flights cancelled and 23 diverted.

22-hour flight delay allows UK passengers to enjoy New Year on the Mexican beach

#Cancun #Flightdelays #NewYear'sEve #Gatwick Flight delays can, at times, be enjoyable as passengers of a Thomson flight discovered much to their delight because, hit by a 22-hour delay from Cancun, Mexico, to Gatwick, the passengers celebrated New Year on the beach instead of in the air.
The scheduled departure of the flight from Cancun was 4.10pm local time on New Year's Eve and it was to fly overnight and land in London at 7.05 am on New Year's Day. However, instead if that, the passengers spent New Year's Eve in a hotel on Mexico's Caribbean coast. The problem apparently was the scheduling of cabin staff for the plane – it was delayed in Sweden which meant that the aircraft was left sitting on the runway.
Some passengers were shuttled to the plush Riu Caribe beach resort which is rated as 4T+ by the holiday company and when the tour guide informed about the 22 hour delay, it meant an extra day of holiday.
Thomson Airways has clarified that flight TOM049 from Cancun, Mexico to London Gatwick Airport was delayed on another route. Hence, the flight had to be delayed still further, due to mandatory crew rest restrictions. The airline provided customers with overnight accommodation and meals in a hotel in Cancun.
