A survey conducted by the Podar Institute of Education has revealed that the youth is unaware of several basic facts about India. The survey was in the 18-23 age group in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai - the results were shocking.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 15 August 2016.
The tricolor - the survey revealed that only about 10%, 12% and 8%, respectively, knew what the colors of the national flag stood for. The numbers improved to 22%, 35% and 20% after the respondents were given two options to chose from.
The national anthem - less than 40% of the youth in all three cities could correctly sing the full national anthem and, only about 42% of the respondents in Mumbai, 34% in Bangalore and 28% in Chennai could say who wrote the national anthem. After being given two options, the results improved to about 53% in Mumbai, 49% in Bangalore and 38% Chennai.
In the opinion of the Director of Podar Institute of Education, the numbers were a reflection of a worrying trend among the youth because none of the questions had a success rate of more than 50%.... a lot of the respondents could pick the right answer once the options were given to them.
