Thee are 36 million people expected to drive during the Independence Day holiday weekend. This would be a 1.2 percent increase over 2015 figures and, given the news of the lowest gas prices in 11 years, it should be welcomed by travelers all over the United States.
84 percent of holiday travelers will go by roads and, other modes of transportation include cruises, trains and buses. These are expected to increase two percent to 3.3 million people and most of the increase would come from the cruise industry. This has seen a 35-percent increase over last year.
Then there are the fliers. For those who would take an airplane to get to the Independence Day holiday weekend destinations, the average airfare costs are down nine percent from 2015. Moreover, hotel rates are also down this year while daily car rental rates have gone up by six percent.
