Such iron grills are a common sight in the city where most houses in the vicinity of the temples have them for protection against monkeys.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 27 June 2016.
The town has witnessed several monkey attacks and, as per records, nearly 1000 people suffered simian bites during 2014-15.
Monkey menace is not new for Mathura and Hema Malini, the local BJP MP had it in her election agenda. But, very little headway has been made. There had been suggestions of relocating them to the jungles around Vrindavan and, also, introducing a "monkey safari" there for visitors to this religious town.
In the opinion of experts, he monkey menace is a result of fast deforestation. Relocation experiments in towns like Chandigarh have failed because, the simians, left in jungles of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, tend to return to towns since food is readily available.
