Suicide blast outside a bank in Jalalabad kills 33 and injures another 100

#jalalabadattack #afghanistan #taliban #suicidebomber #nangarhar At least 33 persons have been killed and over 100 injured when a suicide bomber attacked outside a bank in Jalalabad, a city in eastern Afghanistan, where people had gathered to withdraw money. The suicide bomber on a motorcycle had targeted a crowd of military personnel and civilians and detonated an explosive-laden motorcycle in the heart of a crowded commercial district. The head of the Nangarhar's provincial hospital has confirmed 33 dead bodies and over 100 wounded were brought to the hospital.
Taliban insurgents have denied being involved in this attack even though they have admitted to being behind earlier attacks that coincided with the sharp drop in number of foreign troops. A spokesman of the group has said that it was an evil act and that they condemn it.
It may be recalled that NATO, at one time, had 130,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and, now, has only a skeleton staff of a few thousand left who are involved mainly in training and special operations.

Montreal woman jailed for deaths on the road – she had stopped her car to allow ducklings to pass

Emma Czornobaj of Montreal, Canada, was driving on the Quebec Highway when she suddenly saw a group of ducklings passing. In order to allow them to cross over safely, she braked her car and, as a result, a motorcycle that was behind her car crashed in to the rear.
The driver of the motorcycle was a 50-year-old man and he had a pillion rider, his daughter, a 16-year-old girl – both died on the spot.
The incident happened in 2010 and she has now been sentenced to 90 days in jail for causing the two deaths. She had already been convicted in June of two counts each of criminal negligence and dangerous driving causing death.
The woman admitted her mistake and added that she just wanted to pick up all these ducklings and put them in her car. As per orders, she would serve the jail time on the weekends. She has also been sentenced to 240 hours of community service, probation and banned from driving for 10 years.
Incidentally, the prosecutors had asked for a nine-month jail sentence.
