Drones are the new delivery boys of drug peddlers in Ohio prison

Drug peddlers have gone hi-tech – they are using drones as delivery boys. It has been reported that a drone had dropped a package of drugs into the Mansfield Correctional Institution in Ohio and the inmates who were outside began to fight for the booty. Pepper spray was used to disperse the inmates.

The incident happened on July 29 and has created a new front in the war on drugs in prison.
The consignment contained almost a quarter of an ounce (7 grams) of heroin, over 2 ounces (57 grams) of marijuana and more than 5 ounces (140 grams) of tobacco. It seems there have been earlier instances of drones breaching security. The authorities have initiated action to increase awareness and improve drone detection.
The video footage has revealed that the drone was seen over recreation yards immediately before a fight began.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the drone had indeed dropped a package that was meant for a particular inmate on the north recreation yard, and it was thrown over a fence to the south recreation yard. Obviously, it was a well-coordinated mission.

Women in Punjab appear to be taking over the drug kingdom. A 47-year-old woman is behind bars for after a local court found her guilty of possessing 500-Kg of intoxicating powder and poppy husk. She was booked under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and is one among 513 such women, booked under the NDPS Act in the state.

As per records, 173 women had been arrested and convicted last year alone. Before to that, in 2013, the number caught was only 43 – and, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the remaining 340 are undertrials.
Most of the women (38) are lodged in Amritsar jails because the heroin is entering the state from the Pakistan border.
The number of men caught in narcotics smugglers is 11,400 locked in Punjab jails. However, Punjab is a male-dominated state where the sex ratio is 895 women per 1,000 men as per 2011 census. Hence, when 500 women are in jail for allegedly running drug rackets, it is a matter of concern.
Many of these women have wealth that run to crores of rupees.

The true story behind the bomb explosion in a local train in Titagarh is all about the plan blowing up in the explosion – the bomb went off during an argument and scuffle between two groups of mobile snatchers.

Investigation has revealed that this group of youths lived in a slum near the station. Their main targets were businessmen, fruit traders and BPO workers who travel by the early morning trains. On interrogation, they have said that they usually hang out from the first or last compartment and had initially targeted the down Muzzafarpur fast passenger train but later changed their plan.
Most of the money they get by selling the mobile phones go to buy drugs like heroin.
People of the railway colony know these youths who control a 2-km stretch between Laxmi Ghat and Railway Basti. They have strong political contacts and used to transport bombs for a larger gang of the Barrackpore industrial belt from the river to the railway network.

Women heroin suppliers in South Kolkata keep narcotics cell cops on their toes

The law enforcement agencies of the narcotics cell are unable to nab two women in South Kolkata who are believed to be the major suppliers of heroin to educational institutions in South Kolkata. They have already nabbed six such women and sent them behind bars in the last five months but two major players are giving them the slip.
The city police have sent six woman drug suppliers behind bars in the past five months, but two in the Gariahat-Kasba belt are posing a major problem for the anti-narcotics cell.
In the opinion of the police, the two women named Lakshmi and Savitri of the Gariahat-Kasba belt who live in slums, are the key links who supply heroin to top educational institutes and universities of south Kolkata. The police are now trying to break these rings.
The link to these women became evident when the detective department arrested a former mechanical engineering student of Jadavpur University who is now employed with the Damodar Valley Corporation. The impetus to nab these drug peddlers emerged following the tragic incident when an intern of SSKM hostel died due to drug injection.
The woman named Lakshmi was in the hooch trade like her mother and began drug peddling for others and finally started operating alone. She managed to rope a person who had "connections" on the Jadavpur University campus.
As per police reports, the clients include the upwardly mobile class of Kolkata, people like aspiring doctors, students and IT professionals.
