Two kids from Bihar ran away from home to ride the Delhi Metro

This is an example of how friends can influence the decision of other friends - it is the story of how two runaway kids aged 14 and 10, ran away from their homes in Bihar to see and enjoy a ride in the Delhi Metro. Delhi is 1200-Km from Begusarai in Bihar where the boys hailed from.But, their mission did not succeed and they will have to wait some more time to enjoy that dream ride on the Delhi Metro.

The kids got the idea after one of their friends had been to the capital with his family. He returned and narrated the wonders of travel by the Metro. The kids were impressed and decided to get a first hand experience. Therefore, the two boys boarded a train to reach Delhi. Unfortunately, an acquaintance of their families saw them boarding the train and immediately informed their parents, who were themselves on the lookout for the missing boys.
The family members informed the police and the government railway police (GRP) and the boys are traced to Bareilly where they were taken off from the train. Both the boys had their mobile phones with them and were tracked quite easily. The kids have, since, been taken back home by their families.

At long last, after plenty of criticism, Delhi is embracing the odd-even formula of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal - the CM has, himself, set the ball rolling by car-pooling with Transport Minister Gopal Rai and Home Minister Satyendra Jain to reach the Secretariat. Delhi is now witnessing full implementation of even-odd rule. Other ministers of Delhi also dumped their cars and used alternate modes to reach office. Since it was the day for even numbers, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia cycled to office - his car is odd numbered.

The Delhi Traffic Police have issued about 200 challans in the morning office hours and, DTC buses and Delhi Metro witnessed usual flow of passengers during peak office hours. It is obvious that people preferred car-pooling and auto-rickshaws to reach their destinations.
It is now four days that this system has been introduced and, the odd-even scheme for vehicular movement faced its real test when the city witnessed maximum traffic during office hours. In this connection it needs to be noted that most of Delhi's traffic has been off-road since January 1 due to weekend and New Year holidays and, the odd-even vehicular restriction policy of the Delhi government had come into effect on January 1. Thousands of volunteers took to the streets to assist traffic police in enforcing the pilot plan that will stay in force till January 15.

Namma Metro - Bengaluru Metro limping along for over a decade

Namma Metro was supposed to be a feather in the cap of Bengaluru, the Gsrden City - but, even after a decade, it is just limping along. It had been planned in 2002-03 and started in 2006 but it is nowhere near completion and, as per latest indications,the citizens would have to wait for at least 17 more years.

The cost of the project has more than doubled from Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 13,800 crore and, Phase 1 of the project, covering 42-Km, was to have been opened this year but the completion date has now been pushed to the first quarter of 2016. Asa per a recent survey published in railyatri.in, it appears that Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) will take up to 2032 to complete both phases and provide the city with a 114-Km network.
The survey found that Bengaluru Metro had been able to construct 1.5-Km of network every year. In contrast, Delhi Metro built 8-Km per year in the first phase.
It may be recalled that when former PM Manmohan Singh had laid the foundation stone for Namma Metro in June 2006, the first line, Byappanahalli-MG Road, was to be operational by 2009 and the first phase by 2011. however, the first line was only commissioned in October 2011 - the rest of Phase 1 is still being built.

Women pick-pockets have a field day in Delhi Metro – 180 women held during 2015

In the period January to September of the current year, as many as 182 women pick-pockets were caught in the Delhi Metro and the number of men was only 13. Obviously, women pick-pockets are having a field day. The figures have been compiled by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

These women have a clever method – they usually have a child or toddler with them and use that as a deception to pick the pockets of the travelers.
The corresponding figures of the past show that women always were more in number. In 2014, over 300 women were intercepted for these crimes while in 2013, out of a total of 466 pickpockets held across various stations of the Delhi Metro, 421 were women.

It was a day of selfies with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for lucky commuters when he took the Delhi Metro for a change to inaugurate the extension of the Badarpur Line that will connect the satellite city of Faridabad to the national capital.

The PM, accustomed to jetting across the globe, boarded the Metro at the Violet Line's (Line 6) Janpath Station at around 10 AM to go to Faridabad's Bata Chowk Station. His decision took passengers and Metro officials by surprise because as per plans, he was scheduled to take a chopper to Faridabad.
He took the opportunity to interact with the regular commuters and allowed them to take selfies with him.
The launch of this section of Delhi Metro would make way for a hassle-free travel for nearly two lakh daily commuters between the national capital and the industrial hub in Haryana. This 14-Km long extension will have nine stations from Sarai to Escorts Mujesar and another two at NCB Colony and Ballabgarh will be added by 2017.
