Navjot Singh Sidhu hospitalized for deep vein thrombosis

Navjot Singh Sidhu, a BJP leader and former cricketer was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital and is undergoing treatment for acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

The hospital has indicated that it is a life threatening condition if not treated on time. He has been put on blood thinners and is recovering. His condition is said to be stable as of now.
He has played 51 Tests and 136 ODIs for India between 1983 and 1999 and has been a two-time former MP from Amritsar constituency in Punjab. Moreover, he is an integral pat of the TV commentators who cover the IPL games and his sense of humor and play in words have endeared him to his fans. He is also a regular face of comedy shows and has revealed his many faceted nature time and again.

Then there was the mother in Colorado, in United States, who had to be admitted to hospital because her 12-year-old daughter had allegedly tried to poison her for the second time by putting bleach in her water carafe. The reason, the mother had taken away her mobile phone.

These are dangerous trends and the parents need to take notice and bring about suitable changes in their own behaviors and in how they view the world. They should not force their kids to suddenly jump into the world of adults.
This is evident in the increase in the number of TV reality shows where kids are specially groomed to behave and talk like grown-ups. They are pampered by the hosts of the shows and showered with unimaginable number of prizes that consist not just of physical gifts but are accompanied by cash prizes.
Such TV reality shows embrace singing or dancing or comedy shows to general knowledge and create new group of kids who begin to dictate their terms. They know that they can demand any price and, their parents who are in the background, know that they can get away with blue murder. The songs the kids sing are from latest movies, the dances that they perform are also hip-swinging hot numbers of movies. The judges drool over them, the audience claps them on and they are ranked based on votes – where manipulation is rampant.
And, not only TV reality shows but these child ‘prodigies’ have invaded the realm of TV soaps – in all Indian languages. These kids talk, act and behave like grown-ups. In the bargain, a whole new brand of kids are emerging which does not auger well for the future of society. Parents do not realise the Frankenstein they are creating.
