Siliguri Police says 'No Helmet, No Petrol' for two wheelers

In order to ensure that those who ride two-wheelers wear helmets for their own safety and thereby reduce fatalities in accidents the Siliguri Metropolitan Police (SMP) has issued an order to all petrol pumps within the SMP area not to sell fuel to motorcycles, if the riders are not wearing helmets. The orders are applicable for all 36 petrol pumps under SMP.
This has been reported in thestatesman.com dated 11 July 2016.
Consequent to the growing trend of reckless driving, the police feel that it may force the people to wear helmets while using the roads for their own safety. Traffic police prosecutes riders for not wearing the helmets but to make the rule more stringent this decision was taken. Petrol pumps will not refill the tanks of those riders who are without helmets and the police is hopeful that this will bring down the rate of road accidents.
SMP has also asked the petrol pumps owners to install CCTV cameras at the pumps and the police will also conduct surprise check at the pumping stations.
