Japanese town of Beppu on the island of Kyushu is a hot spring resort with over 3000 of them

Beppu, a city on the island of Kyushu in Japan, is a hot spring resort with over 3,000 of them that keep ejecting over 130,000 tons of scalding water every day. In Yellowstone National Park in the US, the discharges are more.
In Beppu, this is attributed to geothermal activity is Japan’s largest active volcano which is the 5,200ft-tall Mount Aso - it is located just 60 miles to the south west of the town.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 16 November 2016.
The eight major geothermal hotspots in the city are too hot to bathe in and are often called the eight hells of Beppu. Tourists always get a warm welcome. They are treated to eggs being boiled in the hot springs, foot baths in some of the cooler ponds and huge souvenir shops. The warm water is also piped into homes and businesses.
Mount Aso’s current shape was formed when it erupted some 300,000 years ago. Tourists can visit the crater by car as there are parking spaces a short-walk from the edge. There is also a cable car that affords visitors views of the furnace inside.
Incidentally, Mount Aso had erupted for the first time in almost two decades in October and blanketed cities almost 150 miles away in grey ash.

Controversy over hunting of bisons in Yellowstone National Park

The bison in Yellowstone National Park is one of the last genetically pure populations of the national mammal and wildlife advocacy groups want the U.S. government to take a re-look at whether the hunting and slaughter of bison that wander outside the park threatens the very survival of these animals.
This has been reported in foxnews.com dated 28 September 2016.
The question is whether federal wildlife officials should re-examine and place the Yellowstone bison in the threatened or endangered species category. Bison had been designated by Congress as the national mammal earlier this year. These had been hunted to near extinction in the late 19th century and there is now an estimated 4,900 of them as the last remaining populations in the U.S. that don't have cattle genes in their DNA.
However, park biologists do not agree to this. They have said that the bison population needs to average between 3,000 and 5,000 animals to preserve genetic diversity. Officials of the park have also said that the bison population has grown steadily from 500 animals in 1970 to the current numbers. Therefore, culling the herd does not put the population at risk.

Global warming forces grizzly bears of Yellowstone to wake up before schedule

#grizzlybears #yellowstonenationalpark #bearspray #globalwarming Global warming is taking its toll on the grizzly bears of Yellowstone National Park because, this year, they have women up before time – on Feb 9, a grizzly has found to be feasting on a bison carcass and, that is roughly a month earlier than usual.
This has been reported in foxnews.com dated 19 February 2015.
Normally, visitors to Yellowstone in February do not need to be worried about running into a grizzly bear but, this year, they are being advised to pack the bear spray.
As revealed by officials of the Park, they have come across unseasonably warm temperatures this winter and believe that the reason is probably the warm climate.
Of course, they have added that the warm climate is an indicator, but it does not imply that there is a rush of bears leaving their dens. However, spotting one could mean that there could be others and the fact that it was eating would probably means that it had come out of its den for good.
There are nearly 600 grizzlies in the greater Yellowstone region, and they account for over half of the total population of bears in the lower 48 states.

Fresh rumors of Big Foot sighting in Yellowstone National Park

#YellowstoneNationalPark #sasquatch #bigfoot #oldfaithful Big Foot is to the United States as Nessie, the Loch Ness monster is to Scotland or the Yeti is to the Himalayas – while many believe that both of these are nothing but myths, the sudden news of sighting of these creatures dos allow imagination to take wings.
In the latest case, some Sasquatch enthusiasts are of the opinion that the footage shot at Yellowstone National Park shows not one but four of the mythological creatures known as Big Foot. As reported in news.sky.com dated 6 February 2015, the footage is of bison roaming around in a snow-covered park and, suddenly, four creatures walking upright appear in the background.
The footage was posted by user Mary Greeley and has, reportedly, been watched some 40,000 times since the end of December. The video had captured the scene on camera near the tourist attraction's Old Faithful geyser but, it cuts away before the camera can get close enough to look at the creatures.
Bigfoot is believed to have flat feet - similar to a human's - and a footprint that spans over 40cm and enthusiasts keep hoping to lay hands on evidence that could prove the existence of such a creature that is widely thought to be fictional. In the opinion of scientists, most of the supposed sightings are cases of misidentification of other animals or hoaxes.
