EgyptAir crash affects tourism - hotel rooms in Sharm el-Sheikh available for as little as £18 a night

The crash of EgyptAir flight MS804 has had an adverse effect on tourism in Egypt and, coming as it does after last year's Metrojet disaster, the resort Sharm el-Sheikh is literally 'on its knees' with rates in five star hotel rooms slashed from hundreds to as little as £18 a night.

In the opinion of a travel expert tourism in Sharm el-Sheikh is now close to collapsing altogether. Prices for hotels are have gone down drastically and there is no Russian market into the area - they used to be one of the biggest. Moreover, all direct flights from the UK are also off. Hence, the glut. Following the Russian plane bombing in October 2015, British and Russian airlines have suspended flights to Sharm el-Sheikh till such time they are satisfied with improvements to airport security.
Germany has, of course, recently announced that flights can start again but the resorts in the area are empty, occupancy levels are very low and workers being laid off. The net result is that the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh is on its knees.
In order to come out of the doldrums, Egypt needs to ensure that it communicates in such a way with the industry, media and public that it can rebuild the trust, and, simultaneously, the much needed to build market confidence.

EgyptAir Airbus A320 from Paris to Cairo crashes with 66 passengers and crew on board

It has been confirmed by officials of Egyptian aviation that an EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo with 66 passengers and crew on board has crashed. It was EgyptAir Flight 804 and it lost contact with ground radar while flying at 37,000 feet. the Airbus A320 had vanished 10 miles (16 kilometers) after it entered Egyptian airspace. A search has been started to locate the debris. The "possibility that the plane crashed has been confirmed," because it has not landed at any of the nearby airports.
French president Francois Hollande has spoken telephonically with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and assured to "closely cooperate to establish as soon as possible the circumstances" in which the EgyptAir flight disappeared.

Egyptian military aircraft were searching for the plane. It was carrying 56 passengers, including one child and two babies, and 10 crew members and its pilot had 6,000 flight hours. EgyptAir has said that those on board included 15 French passengers, 30 Egyptians, one Briton, two Iraqis, one Kuwaiti, one Saudi, one Sudanese, one Chadian, one Portuguese, one Belgian, one Algerian and one Canadian.
It seems the pilot did not send a distress call, and the last contact was made 10 minutes before it disappeared from radar.
France continues to remain under a state of emergency after Islamic extremist attacks had killed 130 people in a spree of attacks in November - the ISIS had claimed responsibility for the attacks.
