Tram oveturns in Croydon and at least five persons killed and over 50 injured

A tram crashed and overturned in Croydon, south London, killing five people and injuring more than 50 others. As per witnesses, the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel - he has been arrested. The incident happened early morning at 6am when the two-carriage vehicle went off the rails in torrential rain.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 9 November 2016.
It seems the vehicle was coming down towards a bend on a steep slope and it kept ob going down the hill instead of turning - it is feared that it may have been going 'too fast' and tipped over near a tunnel. Officers of British Transport Police were at the scene and working with the Rail Accident Investigation Bureau to investigate the cause of the derailment that happened where the New Addington branch of the tram line meets the Beckenham and Elmers End branches.
London's only tram network operates in the south of the capital, from Wimbledon to Beckenham Junction, Elmers End and New Addington, via Croydon and more than 27 million passengers used the service in 2015/16.
