The city already has four all-women police stations at Tollygunge, Watgunge, Patuli and Amherst Street, and the new additions will help the police to serve better. The total number of all-women police stations would go up to eight. The target is to set up 65 all-women police stations across the State to tackle crimes against women.
This has been reported in thehindu.com dated 4 October 2016.
These police stations are exclusive for women and will investigate crimes against women with particular focus on cases involving dowry, domestic violence, abduction and sexual offenses.
The city police stations have three female police personnel in each namely two constables and a sub-inspector. In addition, women personnel are also deployed at the radio flying squad that is stationed at night to respond to any crimes against women.
