Kolkata to woo tourists through Nalban and Captain's Bheri off EM Bypass

Kolkata plans to woo tourists through the huge wetlands of Nalban and Captain's Bheri located off EM Bypass. The project is being taken up by the State Fisheries Development Corporation (SFDC) and the Ministry of environment has sanctioned funds for developing the areas.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 10 July 2016.
The 30-acre Captain Bheri had been inaugurated as an aqua hub and will mow be developed as an eco-aqua hub mainly for educational purposes. There will be an interpretation center for students to know how fish production takes place. Plantation of trees has already started in the surrounding areas. Visitors will get a chance to get a glimpse of various species of fish, birds and plantations in the wetland areas through a series of photographs in the interpretation center. There will also be a fish orchard at the venue.
There would be an aquarium, a joggers park, a tortoise room with captive breeding facility, a habitat for several varieties of ducks and a car parking lot apart from flower gardens surrounding the water-body as well as a food park.
Side by side, the Nalban Food Park is also set for an expansion. Talks are on with a number of restaurant chains who are eager to set up eateries there. The Nalban bheri is spread over 400 acres and is being maintained by the fisheries department.
CM Mamata Banerjee is keen on turning the Nalban bheri into a tourist destination because there is a need to protect and develop the water-bodies across the state in an eco-friendly manner.
