70000 expected to get 'Fish Prasadam' this year from Hyderabad to cure respiratory ailments


India is a land of many cultures and faiths and there are innumerable unorthodox cures to diseases - the 'fish prasadam' is believed to be one such. The medicine can cure any number of respiratory diseases and the medicine is administered through a fish. A herbal yellow paste is prepared with a secret formula and stuffed inside a live Murrel fish which is slipped into the throat of the patient.

Thousands of people have queued up since early morning to get he dose of medicine cure their respiratory illness. They consists of children and elders and, people come here from different parts of the country in the belief that "Fish Prasadam" will cure them of asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory illness.
The Telangana government has made elaborate arrangements for the event and have deployed nearly 1500 policemen while 32 counters have been set up for distribution of medicine. The organizers have made arrangements to attend to 5 lakh people. Last year, 56,000 people had taken the prasadam and this year it is expected that the figure could be around 70000.
Incidentally, many rationalists question the cure as merely blind faith but the Bathini Goud family, who have been administering "fish prasadam" since 1845, have asserted that the cure is permanent and effective.
