Thunderstorm throws life out of gear in Sydney - at least one death reported

A man has died and a woman is in a critical condition after a tree fell on their car as wild weather and thunderstorm swept across Sydney throwing totally out of gear. Most of Australia was basking in a summer heatwave with people braving the sweltering temperatures of up to 40 degrees, before the city experienced this freakish weather.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 14 January 2016.
As a result of the thunderstorm and strong winds, trees and powerlines fell across the city's west, destroying cars and ripping roofs off houses. Simultaneously, lightning strikes sparked fires in the Blue Mountains. Emu Plains and Penrith bore the brunt of the wild weather and many homes suffered damages apart from damages to cars and power lines across the region.
Emergency services were trying to rescue people who were trapped in their car when a tree fell on it in a shopping center car park on the Great Western Highway. More than 40,000 homes and businesses have been left without power in parts of Western Sydney, while another 38,000 are affected in the city's north and south.
The Bureau of Meteorology has already issued a thunderstorm warning for much of the state, stretching from Goulburn to Coffs Harbour and across to Bourke. A severe weather warning has also been issued for flash flooding inland from Bega to Goulburn - up to 100mm of rain is expected to fall in the region over a 12-hour period.
The southerly buster saw temperatures plummet ten to 15 degrees in just one hour when it hit.
