The controversy arose after it came under attack from a Twitter handle that was linked to RSS swayamsevakas - the controversy was about selling products made of imported cow skin.
However, the RSS has disassociated itself from such a stance and its spokesperson Manmohan Vaidya has said the organization did not subscribe to views of independent sanghis.
"We do not subscribe to the views expressed on @rss_org as it is not the official Twitter handle of RSS," Vaidya tweeted on Friday.
Interestingly, this is in complete contrast to the stand taken by Rajesh Parmar, who is in charge of RSS media affairs in Karnataka.
He has clarified that "@RSS_Org is the Twitter handle of one of our swayamsevaks. The RSS recognizes this handle and public opinion expressed there is shared at the @RSSorg Twitter handle, which is the official and verified one. We endorse the tweet by @RSS_Org on Myntra."
Obviously this is another instance of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was giving. Anyway, this can be considered to be a wake-up call for manufacturers of non leather footwear - there is no dearth of alternatives like alligator skin or deer skin or even wood. And,if worst comes to worse, one can embrace barefoot walks as had been the case with a world-renowned famous painter.
