This has been reported in foxnews.com dated 25 March 2015.
Obviously, it would not compete with any other car for speed or for distance.
In keeping with the original VW Beetle, the motor of the Chinese version is located in the rear of the vehicle. As to the cost aspects, an authentic, conventional VW Beetle would cost about $32,000 in China but, in comparison, the VIDOEV will be listed for $16,000 when it goes on sale next year.
The Chinese version apparently has the Beetle’s signature styling cues that include an arched roofline, bulging fenders and round headlights. The similarity extends to the dashboard which is the same as that of the latest design of Beetle.
But the Chinese are not bothered –its auto industry is known for building knockoffs of foreign vehicles.
In this case, Volkswagen has yet to comment on the VIDOEV, and, in view of legal hurdles, most automakers ultimately look the other way because they have the confidence in their own products and know that customers will pay more for the real stuff and not go in for the clones.
