This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 21 August 2015.
The State and federal authorities have revealed that the pack has been named the Shasta pack after the nearby Mount Shasta. It was good news because the grey wolf had been declared extinct in the state in 1924. It comes four years after the Oregon wandering wolf OR-7 first reached Northern California.
In the opinion of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), it was an amazing accomplishment for grey wolves to establish themselves in Northern California just 21 years after wolves were reintroduced in the Canada's Northern Rockies. Those wolves finally shifted to Oregon and Washington before reaching California, where they are protected by federal and state endangered species acts.
Incidentally, wolves in the state enjoy full freedom and it is illegal to harass, harm, hunt, shoot, wound, kill or capture wolves in the state.
