Over 2000 school children in Philippines fall sick after eating contaminated candy


Nearly 2000 school children have fallen sick with stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting after consuming contaminated candy that was being sold by vendors outside schools in the Philippines.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 14 July 2015.
The authorities are investigating as to whether it was 'intentional ' or 'mishandling'. Initial reports indicated only 1,000 children were poisoned but, the figure was revised based on reports received from the southern island of Mindanao.
As per latest reports, 1,925 schoolchildren have reported being sick after eating the fruit-flavored candy and, another 66 are admitted in hospitals. The candy was the durian, mango and mangosteen-flavored treats The Food and Drug Administration it looking into possible contamination involving staphylococcus, salmonella or E.
coli bacteria and the police have arrested nine street vendors who had procured the sweets from the same producer - Wendy's Delicious Durian Candy.
