Blackout in London’s West End – darkness engulfs homes and businesses

#holbornfire #LondonWestEnd #undergroundfire People of central London were caught by surprise when blackout descended throwing the area in darkness and affecting over 5000 homes and businesses. A huge underground fire saw total power cut and the people were left without electricity.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 2 April 2015.
Apart from electricity, the phone lines also went down and thousands of workers fled their offices. The judges of High Court had to be evacuated when the fierce blaze broke out in Holborn, West End.
It seems the fire was detected when thick black smoke was seen billowing up from a manhole cover shortly after midday. The fire was probably due to some faulty electrical cables. Onlookers had difficulties in breathing and there was chaos in the area sine those who had been evacuated were assembled on the street and traffic began to pile up.
Many popular West End shows including The Lion King, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Play That Goes Wrong had to be cancelled.
The police jumped into action and closed off many roads in the neighborhood.
