Tanzania acts against witchdoctors – imposes ban on them in order to protect the albinos

#witchdoctors #tanzania #albinos Tanzania has imposed ban on witchdoctors so as to prevent attacks on albinos – it seems there are over 33,000 such people in Tanzania and, as per reports, seventy of them have been killed in the past three years and, only 10 people have been convicted of murder.
Albino people are those who lack pigment in their skin and they have been targeted by witchdoctors for their body parts because the witchdoctors believe that body parts of albinos bring good luck and wealth.
Home Affairs Minister Mathias Chikawe has indicated that there would be a nationwide operation to "arrest them and take them to court" if they continued to work and the Tanzanian Albinism Society (TAS) has welcomed the ban.
Mr Chikawe has also said that necessary action to locate and prosecute witchdoctors would begin in two weeks' time in the northern areas of Mwanza, Geita, Shinyanga, Simiyu and Tabora because most of the attacks have taken place in these regions.
Incidentally, the ban is a result of the work of a special joint task force between police and the TAS because, the cases against the alleged attackers had, in some previous cases, collapsed due to the loss, mishandling or mislabeling of evidence.
