While interacting with Secretaries of various ministries and departments, over high tea at his residence, the Prime minister has desired that the next year’s budget should focus on being “output to outcome-oriented" – in other words, investments should have measurable outcomes.
In the course of his interaction, he reviewed the progress of work being done on various government initiatives like the 'Swachh Bharat' and 'Digital India' campaigns, and wanted that the bureaucrats begin to take decisions without any fear while assuring his full backing.
In short, he wants to convert the Made in India slogan to Make in India – his intention is to encourage the world to come to India and make use of the huge manpower and resources available in India to make products for the global community. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has coined words and phrases to ensure that his ideas go down to the grassroots level and is understood and appreciated by the common man. His words appeal to the people and, in order to clean the image of India, big names have descended on the streets with brooms in hand to sweep the country clean.
Only, the trash should not be swept under the carpet, the countryside should not have to see women hiding in bushes as they answer the calls of nature, girls should not drop out of school because of lack of toilets.
It is not just about cleaning up the city of Varanasi or the River Ganges but about changing the face of India – by punishing those who litter the countryside. But then, do we have enough waste bins to accept the litter? Can we prevent cows and other animals from dirtying the streets of holy cities like Varanasi?
