This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 19 February 2016.
The wildlife rangers are at a loss as to how the lions got out of the park, which is surrounded by an electric fence. As a precaution, armed rangers, along with vets with dart guns, have scoured the bushes and agricultural land alongside the Kibera district which is home to one of Africa's largest slums.
The wildlife park is fenced in on the city side – some bars even have terraces where one can view animals while enjoying a cold drink – but it is open on other sides to allow the annual wildlife migration in search of grazing. However, the land is under threat from increasing urbanization and more intensive agriculture. As a result, the routes that are usually used by migrating herds in search of new pastures as well as the carnivores that follow for fresh meat are gradually diminishing and becoming narrower.
Lions have clashed with people on the southern side, which is not fenced. In 2012 six lions were killed after the pride of eight lions attacked and killed eight goats of Masaai herdsmen. At present there are only about 2,000 lions left in Kenya and it is the devastating effect of years of hunting and poaching.
