Mount Sinabung in Indonesia erupts – thousands flee for their lives

Mount Sinabung volcano on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia had been dormant for 400-years before it first erupted in 2010 and again has become active since 2 June. This has forced thousands of people living close to the volcano, to flee their homes after it began erupting violently.
This has been reported in bbc.com dated 15 June 2015.
It is understood that nearly 3,000 people living near its slopes have had to leave. Scientists have warned that the volcano could pose more dangers in the coming weeks.
Already there were at least 28 pyroclastic flows. These are surges of hot ash and gas that rush down the side of the mountain at high speed. There is also sign that a lava dome was growing on Mount Sinabung. Lava domes are pile-ups of magma near the vent at the top of a volcano. These are dangerous because these can collapse and flow downhill at high speed.
It may be recalled that at least 14 people lost their lives died last year when the pyroclastic flows from Mount Sinabung struck villages.
