The tests would be held in the four cities of Greenwich, Bristol, Milton Keynes and Coventry simultaneously and this has been reported in theguardian.com dated 11 February 2015.
The prototype driverless cars to be tested in the heart of the four cities have been unveiled and the government is claiming that the nation is uniquely placed to lead the development of the technology. The objective is to have a safer, less-congested, driverless future.
The driverless cars have been developed by Phoenix Wings and its managing director Pierre Lefevre has clarified that the aim for this technology was to do away with remove private cars from being parked on the streets and, simultaneously, working out a way to connect the people between the tube or train to work and residential areas.
A total of eight of the Meridian vehicles will be put on trial over the next two years.
The experts agree that there are technological obstacles because it does not work well in snowy or foggy environments, and the maximum speed would be of 12mph – these would need to be looked into.
