US National Weather Service admits to misleading weather forecast on blizzard

#blizzardnyc #BilldeBlasio #winterstorm To err is human and the US National Weather Service (NWS) cannot be faulted for having given a misleading weather forecast on blizzard in New York City. The NWS had predicted that "potentially historic blizzard" would strike New York City and has, now, graciously admitted that its forecasts were wrong.
Yes, there was snow but NYC was largely spared the miseries as the storm piled deep snow on Connecticut and Massachusetts.
City mayor Bill de Blasio was quick to deny that he had overreacted to warnings – he explained it away by saying that he could take decisions only on the information that is available. In view of the forecast, an emergency had been declared in a swathe of north-eastern states. The meteorologists had predicted up to 90cm (36in) of snow but, officials later downgraded the numbers.
Moreover, the New York City authorities had imposed a driving ban, which has since been lifted, and had also taken the unprecedented step of shutting the subway.
Of course, blizzard warnings continue to be there for Maine and eastern New Hampshire.
The NWS has sought to explain the forecast as one where rapidly deepening winter storms are very challenging to predict and has added that the storm has moved further east and will be departing faster than the forecasts of the past two days.
