Pro-Russian activists destroy Donetsk airport, kill 12 and unleash fresh spate of violence

#Donetsk #ProRussianSeparatists #UkraineCeasefire The ceasefire in Ukraine is as good as dead with pro-Russian separatists resorting to a series of bomb attacks in eastern Ukraine that destroyed the Donetsk airfield. They also killed 12 persons in an attack on a passenger bus.
As informed by a senior State Department official, the separatists had destroyed the government-held airport in eastern Ukraine. The facility has been “flattened” and the air control tower was “decimated,” is how the official has described it.
The 12 deaths is believed to be the single largest loss of life so far this year. It seems civilians were traveling on a commuter bus from Donetsk and were killed by rockets fired from a Grad launcher in rebel territory. The bus was apparently going past a Ukrainian Army checkpoint at the time and got in the line of fire.
Doubts that Russia is continuing to send supplies to the rebels was evident when a convoy of around 30 military-style trucks without license plates headed for Donetsk – these were probably bringing in new supplies for the rebels.
The proposed round of peace negotiations that was to be held this week between the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France has been shelved -- possibly indefinitely.
