The National Park Service revealed that a flash flood at Zion National Park in Utah swept away many hikers. One of them was a woman who went missing. The authorities identified her as Jetal Agnihotri of Tucson, Arizona. It seems she did not return to her lodging after a day trip to the Narrows in the afternoon. The flash flood happened along the Virgin River known as the park's backbone. On receipt of information, park rangers arrived at the scene and discovered an injured hiker. The location was some distance away from the Temple of Sinawava. Rangers also came across a number of hikers trapped on high ground by the water. After initial search, all the hikers were thought to be accounted for. However, later, friends of Agnihotri discovered her absence. Hiker missing after flash flood at Utah’s Zion National Park.

The area where she went for the hike is known as the Narrows. Alongside it is the Riverside Walk. In view of the incident, these locations have been closed until further notice to facilitate the search. The authorities also canceled camping permits and certain hiking permits in the Virgin River Narrows. Friends of the missing woman revealed that Agnihotri was determined to see the Narrows on Friday in spite of the warnings of flash floods. Incidentally, her brother revealed she could not swim. The Narrows hike is popular. Here, visitors have to walk in the Virgin River through the Zion Canyon. This is about 20 to 30 feet wide in some places and there are possibilities of flash flooding. This is because of the surrounding topography that consists of bare rock. These do not have the ability to absorb water.
