Therefore the culture of using the refrigerator to store food items has increased. However, one needs to know that refrigerating certain foods can actually affects their flavor and, can, at times, reduce their nutritional quality, or accelerate the spoiling process.
Hence, one should know which food items should not be refrigerated.
1 Herbs – these wilt faster in the fridge. Better to keep them in a water-filled glass jar on the kitchen counter which will keep it fresh and crisp.
2 Potato – refrigerator is not the place, better option is to store them in paper bags rather than in plastic bags because those promote moisture and speed up the decay process.
3 Fruits – storing fruits like avocado, apples, bananas, citrus fruits, berries, peaches, apricots, and nectarines will make them lose their flavors and textures. Oranges, lemons, and limes can be kept at room temperature on the kitchen counter.
4 Onion - onions are not for the refrigerator – store them in paper bag in a cool, dark spot, away from potatoes because the potatoes tend to release moisture and gases that can cause onions to rot. The moisture of the fridge tends to make the onions go soft and moldy.
Other items that need not be kept in the fridge are saucy ketchup and soy sauce because they have enough vinegar and preservatives to keep them in fit condition. Same goes for pickles – they are high on preservatives.
