No more throwing plastics in the Ganga - National Green Tribunal

It is no banned to throw plastics in the Ganga as per directives of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). It has banned camping activities from Kaudiyala to Rishikesh in Uttarakhand with immediate effect in a bid to tackle pollution in river Ganga. It has, simultaneously, imposed a ban on complete use of plastic from Gaumukh to Haridwar along river Ganga with effect from February 1, 2016.
This has been reported in zeenews.india.com dated 10 December 2015.
The NGT has, however, allowed rafting activity in river Ganga because it does not cause pollution. Earlier, it had denied permission to rafting camps operating on the banks of Ganga from Shivpuri to Rishikesh in Uttarakhand.
Another directive of the NGT is no mechanised river bed mining will be allowed in Ganga.
These developments have come because of growing concerns over high level of air pollution in the national capital since the quality of Delhi's air has been oscillating between 'severe and very poor' with heavy smog enveloping the city all day.
