This has been reported in ibnlive.com dated 17 September 2015.
The renovated Stupa and Ashoka pillar was one of 19 that had been sent by Emperor Ashoka and the present one is along with a huge golden statue of Buddha. It was consecrated by Gyalwang Drukpa, the spiritual head of Drukpa lineage of Buddhism based in Ladakh in China's Qinghai province which is situated near Tibet Autonomous Region.
It seems over 2,500 years ago, Buddha's disciples had retrieved one skull bone, two scapulas, four teeth and 84,000 pearl-like sariras (relics) following the cremation of Lord Buddha. As per Buddhist records, Emperor Asoka had collected all of Sakyamuni's sarira, and stored them in pagoda-shaped shrines before sending them to different parts of the world.
China is believed to have received 19 of them including the one in Nangchen however, most of them have been destroyed due to natural wear and tear apart from negligence.
Three more such Stupas had been discovered in the cities of Xian, Nanjing and near Ayuwang in Zhejiang Province and the Nangchen Stupa is the first to be discovered in the Tibetan region.
