The World Health Organization has defined overweight and obesity as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health and lead to the dreaded cardiovascular disease like heart disease and stroke. However, even a slight reduction in weight of 5 t0 10 per cent can reduce the risk of heart disease.
And, the best way to do this is to go in for healthier food choices apart from increased level of physical activity. For the dos in your diet go in for - fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, low fat dairy products, fatty fish (salmon, tuna), soya and soya products.
The don’ts - refined cereals, saturated fatty acids, processed and packaged foods, fatty meats (mutton, beef), fried and deep fried foods and, of course, smoking.
