The full extent of damages have yet to be ascertained but, at least 12 people have been injured and no loss of lives have been reported. The twisters also whipped through rural parts of Texas, Kansas and Nebraska.
The Oklahoma City area appeared to be the hardest hit as the storm flipped vehicles over vehicles on Interstate 35 and left power lines strewn across the roadway.
Emergency Medical Services Authority have indicated that the company had shifted 12 patients from a trailer park in south Oklahoma City to local hospitals.
Flights were disrupted at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. The people were twice evacuated into a tunnel outside the security zone and, later, flights were canceled for the rest of the day.
The tornado was followed by rains and residents were advised of "deadly and dangerous" conditions and asked to remain indoors. The rainfall has prompted the city authorities to issue a flash flood emergency for the first time in history.
