Australian police arrest five teenagers with ISIS links who planned to carry out attacks

#australianpolice #NarreWarren #anzac #ISIS The Australian Federal Police and Victoria state police have arrested five teenagers in the 18 to 19 age group on suspicion of plotting terrorist attacks on police officers. Two of the suspects were 18-year-olds who were allegedly getting ready to carry out ISIS-inspired attacks on police. A third 18-year-old was arrested on weapons charges. Two others, aged 18 and 19, from Narre Warren are also in custody and are believed to be assisting police.
This has been reported in nzherald.co.nz dated 19 April 2015.
All the five were arrested in Melbourne after a joint counter-terrorism team involving more than 200 officers had executed seven search warrants at various locations in Narre Warren, Hampton Park, Hallam and Eumemmerring.
The investigations had been launched in late March but had escalated to the raids based on information received last week that the attacks could be carried out within days. In the opinion of the police, the targets were Anzac activities in general and in the Melbourne area.
All the five suspects were associates of Numan Haider, the man who was shot dead by police in Endeavour Hills last year after he had stabbed two officers. Moreover, two of the men who have been arrested were likely to be charged with several offences relating to preparing for and acting on a terrorist act and possessing prohibited items.
