The purse carried in the Eagle lunar module during the historic Apollo 11 mission contained, among other things, the camera that filmed Neil Armstrong's descent on to the moon's surface.
Neil’s wife Carol Armstrong discovered the purse in a closet in her home on Ohio after the death of Neil in 2012 and informed the authorities who are thrilled at the find.
The contents of the purse are power cables and utility clamps and other priceless mementos from the most famous space mission of all times. There were a total of 18 items like cables, netting, mirrors and the waist tether Neil Armstrong had used. Moreover, there was the 16mm camera which filmed the landing on the moon and the planting of the US flag, alongside a bracket for the camera, a 10mm lens and a lens shade.
It seems these items were supposed to be left on the Moon so as to not add extra weight to their capsule on its launch off the lunar surface but, due to whatever reasons, Neil did not do so. The items would now go on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum alongside other artefacts from the mission.
In the opinion of experts these were "of priceless historical value".
