Best wishes to the women on International Women’s Day 2022

Women used to be ignored by the men and the logic used to be – “they should be seen and not heard.” Their responsibilities used to be divided between the kitchen and the bedroom. Even in the movies of pre 1970s, women seldom appeared in the posters. The men dominated movies. However, today in the 21st century there are women like Madhuri Dixit, Deepika Padukone, Hema Malini, Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra who call the shots. There used to be a time when women worked as domestic helps or as nurses in hospitals. Today, the world is their stage. They can be seen at work in the police, armed forces, banks, colleges and even in the world of fashion and cricket. To them, the sky is the limit – literally. They occupy the cockpits and fly as pilots to different destinations.

When it comes to the arena of politics, many women can outwit the males. Examples are Sonia Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani etcetera. The bottom line is – women are powerful and deserve respect. They are no longer helpless and have the ability to reach the peak in any field.

Kolkata going green - Lal Dighi, the CBD, to be vehicle free on weekends

It has been announced by Chief minister Mamata Banerjee that the Lal Dighi or CBD of Kolkata will be declared as a vehicle free zone on weekends and dedicated to walkers. Lal Dighi is the heart of the city Kolkata and Mamata Banerjee wants people to "roam around freely, have food and enjoy cultural programs" in the area.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 26 December 2015.
Lal Dighi is surrounded by heritage structures, like Writers' Buildings, GPO and Currency Building, Fairlie Place, Dead Letters Office. Previously known as Dalhousie Square, Lal Dighi is one of the finest precincts of colonial heritage structures and is the nerve-center of city's central business district (CBD).
Incidentally, the Burdwan administration has taken the lead over Kolkata in making one day of the week vehicle-free. The CM has explained that in Lal Dighi (Dalhousie Square), offices are closed on Saturdays after 5pm and no vehicle will ply till 10pm on Sunday. She had already mooted the proposal to the Kolkata Police commissioner and mayor to implement the new rule early next year.
Around 15-20,000 vehicles from Howrah station and Burrabazar pass through Lal Dighi on Saturdays and Sundays en-route towards south and central Kolkata.

Kolkata to DIgha - 45-minutes by chopper, fare Rs 2000

West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has flagged off a Calcutta-Digha weekly helicopter service. The fight will take 45-minutes and the fare has been pegged at Rs 2000. However, a resident in the heart of Kolkata, the Bengal capital, would have to travel an hour and a half to reach the Behala airstrip from where the chopper would take off!
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 24 December 2015.
A seven-seater Pawan Hans chopper would be taking off every Saturday and reach Digha in 45 minutes. However, the total travel time would be around two hours and fifteen minutes for a person who is staying in central Kolkata while, Digha by road takes a little more than three hours.
The time difference is approximately an hour but the pocket pinch differs significantly. The reason is simple - a one-way chopper ride comes to Rs 2,000 per passenger whereas a one-way air-conditioned bus ticket from Esplanade to Digha costs only Rs 300. Trains from Howrah reach Digha in a little over three hours and, in it, an AC chair car on the Tamralipta Express comes for Rs 370.
Obviously, a chopper service from Kolkata to Digha may not be a profitable proposition. Helicopter services had been started in other parts of West Bengal like in Cooch Behar and Bolpur, but had to be discontinued within a few months because of lack of passengers.
As to Bolpur, the service between Calcutta and Bolpur had to be terminated because the helipad is 4-Km away from the Birbhum town and passengers had to hire a car to reach the helipad.

Mamata Banerjee visits Digha sea beach and outlines her plans

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee visited the sea-beach of Digha and was impressed by it and the tourists who spoke well about the tourist spot. But, she wants still more and issued instructions to her people. As she has said - Digha has everything but it is necessary to create some better infrastructure. Tourists who come, especially couples, must not be disturbed. It is up to the administration to ensure that.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 23 December 2015.
Digha is a well-known tourist spot in Bengal but because of problems like littered beaches, poor road connectivity, absence of a proper walkway along the beach and concerns about safety, tourism has never developed as an organized industry. However, some recent measures that have been taken has given a boost to tourism. One of these is the paved 4-Km walkway parallel to the beach in Old Digha.
Another step taken by the government was the attempt to develop infrastructure around the Udaipur beach along the Bengal-Odisha border. There are also plans to build a road connecting Mandarmoni and Digha through Tajpur. It will be a 20-Km stretch and, once complete, the experience will be better than that of Marine Drive in Mumbai.
Mamata's dream is to turn the beach into one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the state.

Mamata Banerjee loves flyovers - wants Posta flyover to be ready by February

Kolkata is yet to come out of the problems regarding the Parama flyover and, chief minister Mamata Banetjee, in her eagerness to add another flyover to her feather of achievements, has indicated that the 62-month delayed Burrabazar flyover would be declared open by February 2016. The flyover is hardly 76 percent completed and there are innumerable hurdles that have yet to be resolved.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 18 November 2015.
The chief minister has made the announcement while inaugurating a Jagaddhatri Puja in Posta. Her announcement certainly drew cheers from the crowd but left engineers associated with the Vivekananda Road flyover flummoxed and dumbfounded.
An official of the construction company building the flyover has revealed that there are at least four immediate and major hurdles - one of these is with regard to acquisition of land!! Calcutta Port Trust has not yet granted permission to use a patch of land for the Girish Park-bound ramp.
Other issues that need to be sorted out are - a decision on where the Howrah-bound ramp will land as well as the location of two piers at the Posta crossing. This has not yet been fixed.
Moreover, the work is progressing at a snail pace with five to six hours of construction activity every day ever since the start of the project. This is because of police restrictions which have fixed 11am to 5pm as the time available to work on the flyover.
Consequently, the target date of the chief minister may not be feasible.
The flyover would take off from near the Girish Park-Central Avenue crossing and run above Vivekananda Road and Kali Krishna Tagore Street before branching out in two directions from the Posta crossing. One of the arms would run above Strand Road and approaches Howrah bridge from Posta, the other would be to carry traffic towards Nimtala.
The 2.2-Km flyover has missed eight deadlines since construction started in 2009 and the ninth deadline is scheduled to end this November.
Based on the original timeline, the flyover was to be ready for traffic by August 2010.

Kolkata, Kali Puja and holidays

Kolkata can be renamed as the city of holidays - the offices of the State government will remain closed from Tuesday till November 16 because of Kali Puja and Bhai Phonta. Therefore, if an employee of the state government takes one casual leave on Monday, it would turn out to be a bonanza of nine-days beginning from Saturday.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 7 November 2015.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already inaugurated three pujas already - as a result, traffic slowed down on these venues of Theatre Road, Girish Park and Janbazar on SN Banerjee Road.
Incidentally, Janbazar was the second Kali Puja that she inaugurated on Friday. It seems this venue would have cultural programs over the next few evenings with Preity Zinta and Vinod Rathod coming on Sunday.
As informed by the organiser, who also hapens to be the local MLA, the immersion would take place a week later.
He justified this by saying that the local Durga Puja is small in scale, therefore the people look forward to Kali Puja to compensate. The idol would be retained for a week despite the rituals getting over in a night.

Kolkata wants Europe flights to return – chief minister talks to civil aviation minister

Once upon a time the Kolkata airport had several International Airlines like BOAC, Lufthansa, Japan Air Lines apart from Air India operating services to different European countries – but, the absence of enough passengers and, more importantly, high-value business travelers led to their departure. Kolkata became a low-priority destination for European airlines.
However, chief minister Mamata Banerjee wants them to come back and, hence, she had a meeting with civil aviation minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju who has indicated that he would request Air India to consider reintroducing direct flights to Europe from Calcutta.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 25 September 2015.
In the course of a meeting held in Nabanna with chief minister Mamata Banerjee, the civil aviation minister remarked that the state government's major concerns were direct flights to Europe and inactive airports in the state. He agreed to take up the matter of direct flights to Europe with Air India.
He also added that Air India have to follow a system to follow but, everyone has to work together to motivate the airlines in order to bridge the gap. Air India, British Airways and Lufthansa had the permission to operate direct flights between Calcutta and Europe – they would require sufficient number of business-class passengers to get motivated.
Air India had withdrawn its direct flight between Europe and Calcutta in 2007 for "commercial and operational" reasons – a euphemism for lack of passengers.

Desperate Mamata Banerjee ropes in Sourav Ganguli to promote industries in Bengal

Mamata Banerjee is desperate to show some positives in the field of industrialization of Bengal. Already four years have passed and, in spite of her journeys to foreign locations like Singapore and London to invite industries, she has achieved very little. Therefore, she has now roped in Sourav Ganguli to try something new. Sourav is a darling of Bengalis and has already made a mark in reality TV shows through ‘Dadagiri’. Hence, Mamata feels Sourav can perform a miracle.
This has been reported in dnaindia.com dated 7 September 2015.
There have been reports in the media that BJP is trying to get Sourav into their camp and be the face of the party in West Bengal. Therefore, Mamata is at her wits end.
The reality show named Egiye Bangla- aapni jokhon entrepreneur will be on a private TV channel and will be sponsored by the government of West Bengal. It would target young entrepreneurs who have unique business ideas and help them to achieve their dreams.
It is understood that there would be established entrepreneurs and a number of industry experts on the show to share the mantra of their success. These entrepreneurs will be expected to help start-ups in establishing themselves in the state.
It remains to be seen how far this strategy would succeed given the problems related to availability of land, the terribly poor infrastructure and the prevalent syndicate raj of the different groups of the Trinamool Congress.

Commercial stops will be introduced in Duronto Express trains at technical halts

The Duronto Express category of trains was point to point nonstop air-conditioned trains that had been introduced by Mamata Banerjee in 2009 when she was the Railway Minister and was loved by one and all because it made the train journey more comfortable and safe. Even its external color scheme was different and there was no disturbance from passengers boarding from intermediate stations. Moreover, meals would be served in the trains by the catering staff and the train got priority treatment en-route to its destination.
But, all that is going to change from 1 January 2016 because the railways have taken a decision to convert the technical halts into commercial stops.
This has been reported in zeenews.india.com dated 3 September 2015.
In order to introduce these changes in the computerized reservation system, for journeys starting from January 1, 2016 (bookings for which open today), reservation has been suspended in Duronto till further orders. Reservation will not, therefore, be available on the Internet or at the reservation counters.
The date of opening of bookings for Duronto Express trains with commercial stops will be notified when ready.

Kolkata is dying - Lal Dighi aka BBD Bag in shambles but, Mayor does not know

Lal Dighi is an identity of Kolkata. Earlier known as Dalhousie Square, it became BBD Bag and it is situated in the posh area of the Secretariat of West Bengal, it is in shambles after the Secretariat known as Writer’s Building. It was shifted to its new location and given a new name of Nabanna. But, Mayor Sovan Chatterjee apparently does not know about this!!
Beautification of this landmark heritage had been a pet project of chief minister Mamata Banerjee – but, it is now in shambles because it has gone out of her sight. In fact, the upgrade project has fallen apart because of shoddy workmanship and poor upkeep.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 26 August 2015.
It seems contractors who were engaged by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation are flouting the basic norms that are necessary to restore a waterbody.
An example is the pathway that goes all around the square tank – its reinforcement should have been done by using logs of Shaal trees and placing them side by side along the edge of the waterbody with no gap in between. But, the contractor has used low-cost Eucalyptus logs that have begun to rot and disintegrate within six months.
Moreover, the logs have been planted one foot or more apart, instead of edge-to-edge, to use fewer logs. As a result, constant exposure to water is eroding the bank.
It had been the intention of Mamata Banerjee that the area be used by morning and evening walkers. And, for those who work in BBD Bag, it was meant to be an area for exercise and relaxation, either during lunch hours or after work hours. Unfortunately, it has become a nightmare due to lack of maintenance and so slippery that even the guards posted there have to tread gingerly.

How real are the London dreams of Mamata Banerjee?

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had been to London to win friends and influence people, read industrialists, to invest in her state. She had taken with her a large troupe of 40 industrialists and nearly 20 media personnel plus ten musicians and an actor-cum-MP. Her fond wish of making Kolkata into London was uppermost in her mind.
This was reported in dnaindia.com dated 25 July 2015.
Her visit was supposed to be of six days but, the sudden floods in West Bengal apparently forced her to abandon her mission early and return home to take control of flood relief operations for the flood affected people.
Her visit was seen as an opportunity to tempt industrialists to invest in the state and, she did have a meeting of sorts with Swraj Paul but, noting further has been reported in the media on the achievements of the team that had gone to London.
On the eve of her departure for London, it was given to understand that dozens of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed between the British departments and the West Bengal government in the fields of health, urban planning, and transportation, exploration of natural resources, education and trade.
It would be interesting to know what actually happened. Usually, on return from such visits, there are press conferences to let the people know about what transpired. But – here it is only silence. Is it to be assumed that the London mission was a flop show and that Kolkata will continue to remain as Kolkata?

Mamata Banerjee to trade Tata’s small car Nano with Swraj Paul’s sports car Caparo T-1

Mamata Banerjee’s trip to Britain to woo investors and bring back investments into West Bengal got a boost of sorts when Swraj Paul, the Indian-origin British businessman whose company had an auto ancillary unit in Singur, indicated that his firm would consider setting up a plant in Bengal to manufacture a compact sports car Caparo T-1 for the Indian market.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 30 July 2015.
Swraj Paul has admitted that his sports car may not be suitable for the Indian market since it is in the high price range but he has assured Mamata Banerjee that his company is in the process of designing a cheaper sports car. Once that is done, he would consider Bengal for setting up a plant. There are many ifs and buts.
Chief Minister had gone to meet Swraj Paul in his apartment along with some businessmen from Bengal before she headed back to the airport to catch a flight to India. She had to cut short her visit because of the flood situation in Bengal.
Incidentally, Swraj Paul’s company still holds 18 acres of land in Singur. It had already begun production of equipment before Mamata's anti-land acquisition movement forced Tata Motors to shift its Nano plant out of Bengal. Obviously, it affected Swraj Paul also.
It is a quirk of fate that Mamata had driven out the small car Nano of the Tatas meant for the masses and could now be looking at the sports car Caparo T-1 meant for a selected few.

Mamata Banerjee to waive tax on ATF for airlines that operate direct flights to Europe

On the eve of her departure for London to woo investors, chief minister Mamata Banerjee has indicated that Bengal is ready to will waive tax on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for any airline that is willing to operate direct flights from Calcutta to Europe.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 27 July 2015.
She had a meeting with senior airport officials and bureaucrats in her entourage before she board Air India's Calcutta-Delhi-London flight where she made this announcement. She has asked the airport director to start the ball rolling and approach airlines with this unique offer.
However, how far this would appeal to airlines is a matter of debate – as officials of several international airlines feel that such flights would be viable only if there was a steady flow of business fliers who weren't "price-sensitive" and who were frequent travelers. That is, sadly, not there because Kolkata offers very few business-class passengers to airlines. The reason is the lack of industry. There used to be at least two European carriers, British Airways and Lufthansa that have left the city because of low yield.
Incidentally, the Bengal Global Business Summit held in last January could not attract any international airline to provide direct connectivity to Europe and/or the US.

Mamata Banerjee off to London with team of industrialists and musicians to woo investors

Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, is on her way to London to woo investors to her state because, in spite of trying for the last four years, the state has not been able to attract any substantial investment. Therefore, before her 5-year-term ends, she wants to make one last attempt and will leave for London on Sunday for five days.
This has been reported in thehindu.com dated 24 July 2015.
In the course of her stay there, she will attend several meetings, including one with the Minister of State for Employment, Priti Patel. It is expected that dozens of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) could be signed between the British departments and the West Bengal government. The expectations are in the areas pertaining to health, urban planning, transportation, exploration of natural resources, education and trade.
She has a team of more than 40 industrialists and nearly 20 media personnel accompanying her. They are paying for their travel and stay.
However, a group of 10 musicians and actor Dev who are in the team are going as State guests and the cash strapped government will be footing their bills. They will perform for about an hour at the British Historical Museum on July 28 Tuesday and it is touted as an opportunity to showcase Bengal’s vibrant culture.
It may be recalled that last year, in August, she had taken a trade delegation to Singapore to explore possibilities of inviting investment. She had also promised to open a nodal office in Singapore to facilitate their investment. She had also said that it would operate round the clock and seven days a week.
One wonders what has happened to that and where Singapore investment now stands.

Modi conquers Bangladesh but Mamata silent on Teesta River dispute

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conquered another neighbor - his maiden visit to Bangladesh was full of promises and there were hopes that the Teesta River dispute would be resolved. But, the studied silence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee acted as a dampener.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 8 June 2015.
Dhaka is happy at the huge investment proposals of Reliance and the Adani group to do business in Bangladesh but the sharing of the river waters was a more serious issue. The media was surprised and "saddened" by Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's "studied silence" on the issue.
The media highlighted that the drastic fall in the Teesta water level was affecting the environment, and that the silence of West Bengal CM on the matter had hurt them, especially after the promises she had made in February during her visit.
Dhaka wants her to rise above petty party politics for the sake of good neighborliness.

Mamata Banerjee in team of Narendra Modi headed for Bangladesh

Politics is a profession where nothing is predictable and where sworn enemies can become fast friends overnight. The blow-hot, blow-cold relationship between Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and Narendra Modi, is well known. But, of late, there appears to be a thaw and Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to accompany Narendra Modi on his visit to Dhaka on June 6.
It may be recalled that she had snubbed the earlier Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the same issue four years back – she had skipped a similar tour. In September 2011, she had suddenly pulled out at the last minute. The signing of the Teesta water-sharing treaty was on top of the agenda. The Chief Minister had refused to give her assent to the sharing the Teesta waters with Bangladesh.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 29 May 2015.
It seems the external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had called up the Chief Minister and requested her to join the delegation travelling with the Prime Minister.
His camaraderie between Mamata and Modi has taken everyone, including BJP leaders associated with West Bengal, by surprise. Tongues of the opposition were wagging following a few recent incidents and, the BJP leaders are also surprised.

West Bengal wanted CBI enquiry into Ranaghat nun rape case – center says ‘sorry’

#ranaghat #westbengal #nunrape #CID #CBI The gang rape of a 71-year-old nun of a convent in Ranaghat by a gang of miscreants and the inability of the local police or CID to apprehend the culprits even though CCTV footage showed the faces of the rapists was an embarrassment for the West Bengal government. This gave rise to a situation when the state asked the CBI to step in.
But, the center has said ‘sorry’ as reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 28 March 2015.
This has come as a shock to the state government of Mamata Banerjee. Till now, she had opposed any move to involve the CBI in crimes that were committed in her state even though there was a clamor to hand over the cases to the central agency.
But, this was a different kettle of fish for her. Observers feel that she wanted to wash of her responsibility by transferring the case to a central agency. Thereby, the blame for delays would not be assignable to her government. From the ‘sorry’ of the center, it is obvious that the center has seen through her game plan.
The reasons given for the refusal is that since the CID has succeeded in arresting two of the culprits, albeit late in the day, they could arrest the others as well.

Train journeys of the past when reserved compartment meant no outsiders

It was in December 1966 that I landed in the city of Nasik – to attend an interview. And I stayed on. The time was when the West Indies visited Calcutta to play a Test match. ODIs were unheard of in the sixties!
The day I landed at Howrah station, after attending the interview, I was greeted with front page photographs of a West Indian cricketer running for his life along Outram Road – with his bat raised in the air!! Apparently, something had gone wrong in the course of play.
Coming back to Nasik – in 1966, the train fare from Howrah to Nasik Road was a measly Rs 34.00 with reservation charges of just 25 paise! This nominal charge entitled the ticket holder to a really pleasant journey. Unauthorized passengers never dared to enter reserved coaches. Payment of 25 paise meant that one berth of the 3-tier compartment was yours till you reached your destination. Seventy-five berths and seventy-five passengers. Simple mathematics.
The fare today by Gitanjali Express in 3-tier sleeper class is Rs 695 – a nearly 20-fold increase.
In order to cater to the culinary needs of the passengers, there used to be Dining cars attached to, especially, the Super-fast trains. The attendants of these dining cars pampered the passengers no end. They never had any ulterior motives. They wanted to make the journey as pleasant as possible. They knew that, on reaching Howrah, everyone will go his way – chances of a second meeting were as remote as the flowering of a lotus in the desert! In case such an incident did take place, the dining car attendant would display his second identity – that of a poet-cum-philosopher-cum-politician. He would recite modern poems or wax eloquent on the Marxist movement or even try to enroll you as a subscriber to his very own little magazine. Yes, Bengalees have always been like that. Several identities rolled into one.
The very concept of little magazines is a unique example of true Bengali culture. As and when any Bengali starts to mature, the poet in him awakens. He recites poetry, he dreams poetry, and he thinks that he is the next Tagore!! He sends samples of his literary works to Editors all over and, when such samples fail to see the light of day, he decides to go it alone. With a couple of like-minded individuals and by pooling a couple of hundred rupees, a magazine is born – to cater to the literary works of the core group.
Little magazines started in the sixties and, a few have really stood the tests of time and survived. Some astounding poets have come up via this silent revolution. But then, these are the exceptions and they form a different story altogether.
Today catering in trains is handled by IRCTC – the personalized service has vanished, it’s all business. The increase in fares has happened progressively over the 40-odd years but, a reserved compartment today does not guarantee that you can enjoy the comfort of reserved accommodation for long distance travel. There would be many other who would want to get a share of the pleasure.
Throughout the day you would be disturbed by the entry and exit of short distance passengers and an assortment of vendors who sell anything from air-pillows to cold drinks.
The friendly dining-car attendant has been replaced by pantry-car waiters who are professionals to the core. They tempt you with innumerable concoctions and no love is lost between these waiters and the passengers – to them, hungry and thirsty passengers have very little choice and accept whatever is dished out. Breakfast and lunch come in casseroles and tea and coffee are dispensed from thermos in throwaway cups. The tea is served in tea-bags. With new Ministers at the helm, alternate methods of dispensing tea, coffee, and cold drinks are being considered. The number of trains through Nasik has certainly increased over these years and you have options of traveling in ordinary three-tier sleepers or in the three-tier AC sleepers. Also, prestigious trains like the Gitanjali have regular halts now at Nasik, thanks to Mamata Banerjee when she was the Railway minister.

A new experience of traveling by Duronto trains

When Mamata Banerjee was Railway Minister in the UPA Government in 2009, she had introduced a series of trains called Duronto – the word, in Bengali, translates to mean wild or untamed!! The trains would have AC as well as non-AC seats and meals, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian would be served in the train itself as is the system in the Rajdhani express.
As per initial plans, there would be a total of 12 Duronto trains – and, as Mamata Benerjee indicated, these new non-stop fast trains would take less time than even the Rajdhani express to complete their journey. The reason for this would be absence of intermediate stoppages because these would be pint to point.
Of course, there would be a few technical halts to facilitate staff and loco change.
Pune-Howrah Duronto express started from 9th October 2010 and its frequency was bi-weekly - departing from Pune at 3.15 pm on Saturdays and Mondays to reach Howrah at 7.40 pm, Sundays and Tuesdays. There would be operational halts at Daund, Manmad, Bhusawal and Nagpur.
The train consisted of 16 coaches, nine would be AC III-tiers, three AC II-tiers, and one coach as AC-I. The train would also have a pantry car as well and would cover the distance from Pune to Howrah in 28 hours as against 34 hours taken by the Azad Hind Express which was the only train available till then to go from Pune to Howrah direct.
Well – I had an opportunity to travel in the Pune Howrah Duronto last year during the Puja holidays and it was indeed a pleasant experience. The staff pampered the passengers no end and brought out delicious eatables right from the beginning of the journey. From evening tea with snacks to dinner and then next morning from bed tea to breakfast flowed by lunch and evening tea. The waiters were courteous and gave no reason to grumble.
The only thing lacking when compared with other mail or express trains was the absence of the hustle and bustle at stations when the train halts. Since there were no halts, I missed out that part of the journey.
