The act has been described as an act of of "sabotage" because while hundreds of thousands of liters were spilled into the drains, nothing was reportedly stolen.

The countess who manages her family's winery has indicated that an investigation is underway and has described the break-in as an "act of vandalism" and has added that she had no idea of who might be behind the vandalism.
The sprawling estate located about 70-Km from Milan has been the family's home since the 15th Century. It includes 180 hectares of vines, apart from hundreds of hectares of woodland, forests and arable land. The area is known especially for the Pinot Nero grape - it is used to produce bubbly whites as well as red wines.
