Loktak Lake in Manipur to be developed for tourism

In order to give a boost to tourism in the northeastern state of Manipur, the center is planning to develop the Loktak Lake - this is the largest fresh water body in eastern India. The central minister had visited the lake and had gone to lake islet Pabot Ching to see the proposed developmental works. He was accompanied by Manipur's environment Minister and senior officials.
This has been reported in zeenews.india.com dated 30 September 2016.
The ancient lake plays an important role in the economy of Manipur because it serves as a source of water for hydropower generation, irrigation and drinking water supply.
The central minister also visited Keibul Lamjao National Park (KLNP). This is the world's only floating national park where the Sangai (brow antlered deer) lives. This park is an integral part of Loktak Lake and is the only remaining natural habitat of ‘Sangai’ which was once found across Manipur.
