Bihar prepares to hold global Buddhist meet - foreign delegates from 32 countries to attend


Bihar is preparing for the the 5th International Buddhist Conclave on October 5 and 6 and, on the occasion, will welcome around 350 delegates from 32 countries. They will visit Bodhgaya, Nalanda and Rajgir. The Union tourism ministry, in association with the tourism departments of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, has organized the conclave for the past four years. The venues are in Bodhgaya, Rajgir and Sarnath and the objective is to promote tourism in the Buddhist circuit.

The conclave’s main event this year will include discussions on how Buddhist pilgrimage connects people and the venue will be in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh - it will be held on October 4. Those attending the conclave will be from China, Japan, Thailand, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and a few European nations.
After the inauguration and main event at Sarnath, the delegates will visit Bodhgaya, Nalanda and Rajgir. For this, plans are being drawn up for extending hospitality and security for the delegates.
The delegates will come to Bodhgaya by a chartered flight from Varanasi early on October 5. Subsequently, after checking-in at the hotel, they will leave for Rajgir and Nalanda by road. They will be taken to the Nalanda University ruins, the world peace pagoda at Griddhakuta hills in Rajgir, Venu Vana and other popular tourist spots of the Buddhist tourist circuit.
