The bidding began with a minimum amount of Rs 1,116 at 9.30 am and ended within half-an-hour. A total of 25 persons had registered their names with the Ganesh Utsav Samithi to participate in the auction and it was finally left to four bidders and ultimately sold for Rs 14.65 lakh. The lucky bidder had paid Rs 4.33 lakh more when compared to previous year.
Soon after he bought the laddu, he paid the amount of Rs 14.65 lakh in cash on the dais to the Ganesh Utsav Samithi even though there is a tradition that the highest bidder has to pay the amount next year. The tradition of auction of Balapur laddu had started in 1994 with a price of Rs 450 and within 22 years, its price has crossed the lakh mark.
