London flooded due to shutting of the Thames Barrier after storm Imogen

#London #floods #stormimogen London is flooded - it is the result of closing the Thames Barrier for the first time this year, ostensibly 'to protect London from the threat of flooding due to the high level of rain combined with high tides from the sea'. This action was taken by the authorities after Storm Imogen lashed the country with heavy downpours earlier this week.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 13 February 2016.
There was flooding in upmarket areas of London with cars lying abandoned half-covered in murky water while residents had to wade through the high water to get to their homes in areas near the Thames, including Richmond. The floods across large sections of the city over the past 24 hours was the result of a combination of the after effects of the recent storms and a high Spring tide.
The water was overflowing in Charring Cross where the average property costs £4.7million, Kew where homes cost about £1m, in Putney where the average home is worth £693,000 and in Greenwich where the average three bedroom house costs around £1.6m.
Obviously, the floods spared nobody.
Moreover, an Arctic blast is also on the anvil - it could bring with it a fresh cold snap and up to six inches of snow. Weather warnings have been issued for north-east England and Scotland and it is expected that temperatures will drop below freezing for much of the UK. The slow-moving cold front will begin in the Scottish Highlands and move south gradually, with snow expected to start falling over England at midnight. Temperature will fall as low as -11C in some parts of Scotland.
