Tourist bus ploughs into pedestrians in Union Square, San Francisco - 20 injured


It was an accident in Union square, San Francisco, when a double-decker tourist bus lost control and ploughed into pedestrians running down a bicyclist, at least two pedestrians and striking several cars. It finally came to rest into scaffolding lining a construction site. Twenty people were hurt, six of them are believed to be in a critical condition.

Union Square is one of the city's most popular tourist destinations. It has a number of high-end stores, including Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue, apart from the Union Square Park and skating rink. The scaffolding, where the bus came to rest, was in front of what is going to be a new Apple store.
At the time of the accident, the square was crowded with shoppers and tourists as the bus came roared across two city blocks at a high rate of speed.
There were around 30 people inside the bus when it went out of control. Six of the injured are in critical condition San Francisco General Hospital - they are three men and three women between the ages of 20 and 60.
