The government of Odisha is determined to unravel the mystery of the origin of the rasgulla – both Odisha and Bengal have laid claims that tis moth watering globule of sweetness is from their state. Hence, in order to put at rest the controversy, the government has decided to set up three committees to delve into the matter and come up with prof to counter the claims of neighboring West Bengal.

The three committees would be entrusted to investigate into matters relating to Rasgulla. This has been revealed by the Science and Technology and Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi.
The committees would have members from Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Culture departments. And, the work has been defined - the first committee would look into facts and evidence regarding the origin of Rasgulla in Odisha while the second would study the ground, based on which West Bengal is making its claim and the third would collect necessary documents to support and validate Odisha's claim.
West Bengal claims rasgulla was a creation of a Calcutta confectioner Nabin Chandra Das and Odisha claims it was invented in the holy city of Puri way back in the 13th century.
A time frame of one week has been assigned to the committees.
